Critically acclaimed baritone Gregorio Gonzalez was born and raised in Mexico and began his studies in California. Gregorio recently sang in Bellas Artes and for the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico, performing the role of Di Cosimo in Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, which he earlier debuted for its European premiere in Austria at Theater an der Wien. He also sang there in Emilio Sagi’s Luisa Fernanda. Other European performances include I puritani and La traviata at the Nederlandse Opera, concert versions of Donizetti’s Poliuto and Verdi’s Otello at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and the role of Harasta in BBC-produced, animated  versions in Spanish and Catalan of Janáchek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, which were released on DVD and televised throughout Spain. On the American continent, Gregorio has sung for Opera de Panamá to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Teatro Nacional. In his native México he has sung for Opera de Tijuana and the Vive La Magia Festival in Guanajuato.

Gregorio has performed extensively throughout the U.S. A three-season residency with Los Angeles Opera began in 2002. While there, Gregorio created the roles of Count Obolenski and Avdeev in the world premiere of Nicholas and Alexandra, and also sang in more than a dozen productions including La bohèmeCarmenRoméo et JulietteIl barbiere di SivigliaLa fanciulla del WestMadama Butterfly, and Le nozze di Figaro, as well as other guest performances including two Placido Domingo and Friends Gala Concerts.

Other U.S. performances include Lucia di Lammermoor at Virginia Opera and Street Scene at Opera Theatre of St. Louis. In addition, he has performed with Connecticut Opera, debuting as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Des Moines Metro Opera, San Diego Opera, San Diego Comic Opera, Moonlight Amphitheatre, and at the Ojai International Festival as the King in Die Kluge under the direction of Maestro Kent Nagano. On the concert stage, Gregorio has performed repertoire from Handel to Daniel Catán. He was a finalist in competitions such as Plácido Domingo’s Operalia, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and the Francisco Viñas Competition. He won First Place awards at the Gerda Lissner, Violetta Dupont, Palm Springs Opera Guild, La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Young Artists, and Virginia Hawk competitions.
