Shoghig Koushakjian – Mezzo-Soprano

Ms. Koushakjian has been singled out for “her rich colored voice [that] caresses the innermost feelings of the listener”.  Singing under the baton of prominent conductors and directors, Ms. Koushakjian has earned opera credits as Maddalena and Giovanna in Rigoletto, Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Madrigal Singer in Manon Lescaut, Annina in La Traviata, Unolfo in Rodelinda, Larina in Eugene Onegin, Gertrude (the mother) and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel, and the title role in Carmen.  Celebrating her Armenian heritage, she has also appeared in Armenian operatic repertoire, singing the role of Soussan in Zvart.  Her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic was at the Hollywood Bowl, as Flosshilde in a concert performance of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung.  In concert, Ms. Koushakjian made her debut with the Pacific Chorale and Symphony as the mezzo soloist in the Southern California premiere of Louise Bacalov’s Missa Tango.  Among her other concert performances have been Wagner’s Wesendonk Lieder, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion, as well as Handel’s Messiah and the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi.  Her repertoire also includes Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio, Bach’s Mass in B Minor and The Rio Grande by Lamb ert, which she has also performed with the Pacific Chorale.  Ms. Koushakjian has been featured in numerous master classes with renowned artists; she has been honored with a number of awards and distinctions.  A graduate of the University of California at Irvine, Ms. Koushakjian earned a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance.  She resides in Los Angeles.
