Soprano Leslie Schipa made her professional debut in New York City with the New York Grand Opera where she performed the roles of Ninetta in Les Vepres Sicilliennes and Curra in La forza del destino. As a mezzo soprano, she performed many roles including Nicklaus in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible, and Zita in Gianni Schicchi, and appeared with many companies including Sarasota Opera, Dicapo Opera Theater, Verismo Opera of Berkeley, Pacific Opera Project, and Hudson Opera Theater. Leslie created the role of Paolina in the world premiere of Troy Herion’s Il racconto d’inverno with the International Opera Theater of Umbria.
Since developing into what she calls a full lyric soprano with dramatic intentions, Leslie has performed the roles of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, and Knuspenhexe in Hansel und Gretel. She has appeared in concert as the soprano soloist in the Fauré Requiem and the Vivaldi Gloria. She has also been a featured soloist with the Verdi Chorus of Santa Monica. Leslie has had the good fortune of traveling extensively, performing in over 40 operas, on 3 continents and 7 countries. This year she will perform Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana with the Verismo Opera and the soprano soloist in Schubert’s Mass in G.
