Statement from our Board President Frank Strauss and our Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum
In alignment with the many steps taken by community leaders and other performance organizations to reduce the risks brought on by coronavirus(COVID-19) that we all are now facing in our lives, and with the safety of all of us and the community foremost in our minds, we have decided to cancel our spring concerts, Opera Gets Real at this time. We have been working on a truly wonderful program, and plan on actually doing this very same program next spring together with the follow-up Cavalleria Rusticana performance as well. In addition, we have every intention of proceeding with our fall 2020 concerts in November.
The Verdi Chorus has been so successful these many years in large part due to our true sense of family, and as a family we have to do what is in the family’s best interest as our most important and meaningful overriding goal.
However, one unfortunate consequence of cancellation of our three upcoming performances and prior rehearsals is that our professional artists will lose payments that they would normally receive for their individual participation. These artists are our most valuable resource. We ask that you consider a personal donation at this time in lieu of concert attendance to our newly established “Artist Relief Fund.” Click HERE to donate online or please make your check payable to the Verdi Chorus (please indicate Artist Relief in the check memo field) and send it to the Verdi Chorus, 2630 11th St., #4, Santa Monica, CA 90405. Funds received will be sent exclusively to our wonderful highly talented musicians.
