In Joon Jang

In Joon Jang has sung the roles of Mr. Director and Presto in
Poulenc’s Les mamelles de Tirésias, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Olin
Blitch in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Nardo in Mozart’s La finta
giardiniera, Ford in Falstaff and the title role of Don Giovanni at
Royce Hall, under the auspices of Opera UCLA. He was also
heard as Bonzo in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the Los Angeles
Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and as Schaunard in the
student matinee performance of La bohème with Los Angeles Opera, where he has
appeared in numerous productions. He sang the role of Yamadori in Madama Butterfly,
Le Bret in Cyrano de Bergerac, Sciarrone in Tosca, Dancairo in Carmen, Dulcamara
in L’elisir d’amore and Ping in Turandot with Opera Pacific. ~ Mr. Jang’s oratorio
credits include Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Bach’s Magnificat, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis
and the 9th Symphony, Haydn’s Third Mass (The Imperial) and The Creation,
Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and
Orff ’s Carmina Burana. ~ Mr. Jang was the first place winner of the Loren L.
Zachary Society National Vocal Competition 2002, the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Western Regional Auditions 2002 and the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation
International Vocal Competition. He joined San Francisco Opera’s Merola
Program in 2002 and was a national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Grand Final Audition in 2003. ~ He received a Bachelor of Music in piano
performance at Kye-Myung University in Korea and earned his Masters of Music
in Voice at UCLA, where he is completing his doctorate in Musical Arts.
